Why your support matters
For three decades, Anandodhara has been a community-driven cultural and literary movement — built on voluntary effort, modest revenue and a deep bond with readers, especially the elderly Indian and Bangladeshi diaspora across Australia. That trust carried us for thirty years. Today, the original model can no longer sustain itself.
The pressures we face
Why nowOur traditional revenue — event tickets, a few sponsors and subscriptions — no longer covers today’s sharply higher costs:
- Declining readershipPrint and magazine subscriptions keep falling.
- Rising cargo tariffsInternational shipping costs surged after COVID-19 and global conflicts.
- Higher postageAustralia Post delivery charges keep climbing.
- Operational costsPrinting, stationery and logistics all cost more.
- An ageing volunteer baseFewer hands for physically demanding work.
We have not stood still. We have raised prices, moved deliveries from fortnightly to monthly and hired occasional help — yet the model remains unsustainable.
From every section of the community, the message was the same — Anandodhara must continue.
Thirty years of community value
We reached out to readers, well-wishers and patrons, and took careful counsel from professionals. The conclusion was unanimous. Anandodhara’s literary events, overseas author interactions, debates, live streams, podcasts, musical evenings and home-delivered Bengali and Indian magazines have created real social impact. For senior citizens especially, it has been a lifeline of cultural connection and emotional wellbeing.

Anandodhara Volunteers Readers AssociationTo preserve Anandodhara’s legacy and secure its future, we have launched AVRA, a not-for-profit charity. Through structured fundraising, active volunteer engagement and transparent, professional operations powered by digital transformation, AVRA will carry Anandodhara’s cultural, literary and community work forward for years to come.
