Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to an inclusive website that everyone can use, built and tested to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. Please tell us if anything is hard to access.

Anandodhara is committed to making our website and services accessible to everyone, including people with disability. We believe access to culture, literature and community should never be limited by how a person reads, hears, moves or navigates the web.

This is a working statement for our staging site and will be reviewed and updated as the site is completed.

Standards we follow

Anandodhara aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG is the internationally recognised benchmark for accessible digital content, covering people who are blind or have low vision, who are Deaf or hard of hearing, who have limited mobility, or who have cognitive and learning differences.

As we serve clients and audiences in Australia, we also design and test with the following in mind:

  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) — Australia’s federal law making it unlawful to discriminate against a person on the basis of disability, including in the provision of goods, services and information online.
  • Australian Human Rights Commission guidance, which recognises WCAG 2.x Level AA as the practical standard for meeting DDA obligations on the web.
  • AS EN 301 549 — the Australian adoption of the EN 301 549 accessibility requirements for ICT products and services.
  • The needs of NDIS participants and people with disability across Australia — we want our content to be usable with the assistive technology people already rely on every day.

How we build for access

Accessibility is built into this site from the ground up, not added on afterwards. Our measures include:

  • Semantic, standards-based HTML with clear headings, landmarks and reading order.
  • Full keyboard operability, with visible focus indicators on every interactive element.
  • Colour combinations checked to meet WCAG AA contrast, and information never conveyed by colour alone.
  • Text that reflows and remains readable at up to 200–400% zoom, on both desktop and mobile.
  • Meaningful text alternatives for images, and captions on video where provided.
  • Respect for “reduced motion” preferences for people sensitive to movement.

Testing

We test with real assistive technology and tools, including the JAWS and NVDA screen readers on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android, together with keyboard-only testing, colour-contrast analysis and browser zoom. We also run automated audits (axe, Google Lighthouse and WAVE) to catch issues early, and treat automated results as a starting point rather than a substitute for manual, human testing.

Conformance status

Anandodhara is a live, evolving site and is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA while build and content work continues — meaning most of the site meets the standard and any remaining items are being actively addressed. Our goal is full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance across the site.
